The new 2013-23 KTM 50cc, tc50 automatic disc clutch is very different from the older model shoe clutches and allows for easy adjustment of the clutch.

Intuitive Race Products have been manufacturing automatic centrifugal disc racing clutches for more than 40 years. Using their vast experience they set out to improve the KTM stock 50cc disc clutch.

IRP has developed new specially designed clutch springs for the 2013-23 stock clutch that provide higher pressure and are made to close tolerances out of superior materials.

Why buy this instead of OEM?

The factory KTM clutch comes with six compression springs designed to provide resistance between the linear travel of the ball cage assembly and the drive plate where the friction disks and floaters are located.

Only three of the six springs can have their resistance (pressure) adjusted through steel retainers attached to hex head bolts on the ball cage assembly.  The three springs that can be adjusted absorb virtually all of the load and can be highly stressed resulting in erratic performance.

The remaining three springs are non-adjustable and have only about 5 lbs preload and therefore do not help spread the load evenly.  Hot spots and uneven wear of frictions can occur that effect performance.

IRP's upgrade STAGE 1 kit includes six heavy duty springs to help all six springs spread the load for a more balanced role in obtaining correct stall speed.  IRP springs also are .025" taller for greater preload and they are made from 17-7 stainless steel material with a spring rate 25% higher than stock springs for longevity and provide a wider range of adjustability.

NB.  Racing causes extreme wear and tear on the clutch, therefore it is important to inspect clutch for wear after each racing event.  Check all parts for cracks or excessive wear and replace if necessary
